Halo - One of the coolest xboxs

One of the coolest xboxs

my Criminal Justice textbook just tried to trick me into believing that this 3D-printed pistol is an actual working handgun... however, I recognized it immediately as THE pistol from Halo and not a real gun.. Kinda mad they lied but it's still slightly cool

In the Bungie days, if you had a cool-looking, hard-to-unlock helmet like Recon or Haunted, people sent you messages congratulating you. A padded-out cosmetic system based on real money sucks, whether it replaces DLC packs or not.

And don't even get me started on having said system in loot boxes. ...

I feel excluded by this community for liking 343 and Halo 5

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 04:31 AM PST

Die hard Halo fan here. I absolutely love this franchise to bits, all of it. Especially the newer stuff. But that's not a popular opinion in this community, and I can't share my positive experiences with the new Halos without getting downvoted or told that "I'm not a true Halo fan".

I get that most people don't like what I like, that's okay. I just don't see why sharing my love for my favourite game (Halo 5) in its own community results in such backlash. I feel like I'm not allowed to enjoy the game. I feel seperate from most of the discussions that take place here, because I know my input will attacked. So I just keep it to myself.

I want to be a part of this community, I love Halo, but because I love all of it, I get a lot of negativity my way. I love 343, and I love the direction they've taken the story, I'm addicted to Halo Wars 2 and Halo 5 multiplayer, I have so much fun climbing the ranks and goofing around with friends in my favourite game. And I hope that I can share my passion for Halo with other Halo fans one day without causing a storm of complaints and criticisms.

The magic of classic Halo, 16 years later

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:11 AM PST

This week during my German class, we went to one of the computer labs at our school to work on a project. I'd already finished it, so I plugged in my flash drive and started playing some Halo. I had the idea to get one of my friends to 1v1 me via LAN, and it actually worked! Eventually a couple others noticed, and within just a few minutes we had a 6 player lobby running and having tons of fun.

The most interesting part to me was that I was one of two people there who was a Halo fan. Regardless of this, everybody that was playing was able to immediately understand the game. Literally the most complicated thing anyone had to ask about was switching weapons. The simplicity of the game meant everybody had a good time, even though most of them were new to Halo. Halo succeeded early on because of its accessibility, not because of a healthy competitive scene or constant updates. It's the reason advanced mobility really has to go, and things like splitscreen and LAN play need to return.

Why do we need loot boxes for free DLC? Why not one time purchases where you know what you get?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:55 AM PST

Titanfall 2 did it. Achievement based cosmetics, regular cosmetics bought with credits, and skins you can buy for a set price in the microtransaction store. They even introduced achievement based executions in the DLC. Why can't Halo, a franchise that is financially much better off than Titanfall, do that?

Why is it that whenever req packs are criticized the Halo community gives an ultimatum. As if it's either loot boxes and free DLC or no MTX and paid DLC. No other choice there. It's incredibly frustrating for this sub to downvote anything criticizing req packs, and respond with the usual "Do you want paid map packs?".

What's even more frustrating when people call Halo 5's loot boxes the best or least worst system when games like Overwatch are 100% cosmetic and have quality cosmetics in the packs, rocket league has earnable cosmetics and even Siege with its clusterfuck of monetization at least let's buy exactly what you want with renown you earn in-game like Halo Reach's credit system.

This post is gonna be downvoted anyway. Why did I make it? I just needed to get this off my chest, and my therapist said to stop bottling stuff up.

TL;DR Halo 5 is not the best loot box system and their are ways it can be improved and still have free DLC.

P.S: I hope the title isn't too confusing. Spent way too long trying to make it.

What do people think about the Promethians as an enemy?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:29 PM PST

Personally, they weren't the best, but I thought they were neat. Levels like The Library in CE hilighted my problems with many flood missions, and I generally had more fun playing promethians. My brother and I (both huge halo fans- own every one but ODST) argue about this constantly.

He says that they are just generic robots and an overused sci fi trope. I disagree. I think that their origin- humans composed by the didact (Correct if I'm wrong, it's been a while) is unique and interesting, and their job on Requim is cool, especially their dynamic/relationship with the didact. Also they have unique behaviors and shapes. Take crawlers: they are dog like but crawl on walls, and have variants. Or watchers- a unique overwatch behavior/design, shielding allies and reviving knights and retreating when hurt- where else do you see this. Or knights, with their abilities and teleportation behavior and sword arm. All of this makes me feel that they are unique and have a good place in halo. But what do you guys think?

Halo 5 building falling Levolution

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:34 AM PST

Does anyone else feel like HW2 was lacking in terms of map content and tactics? More in description.

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:21 PM PST

So I read about a post about if HW2 should have been more RTS like the others out there. When you look at the maps, all there is are just power nodes and garrison towers. I feel like controllable unit nodes would've been nice to have like the Sentinel creation node in HW1 on the snowy map.

There's a lack of map interaction. No actual strategy in a lot of modes. No game-tide turning nodes or points besides power generators. Let's be honest, I can't be the only one who uses a minibase just for a generator.

It mostly comes down to, build a shit ton of a known OP unit and fucking steamroll the other team, or build super units and just whore those things across the map left and right until everyone is dead. Various rinse and repeat strategies.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I feel like HW2 is lacking in the strategy aspect. It's mostly just building a bunch of units and bending over the opposing player until they either rage quit or actually get defeated.

Instead of Real Time Strategy I like to joke and just say Real Time Shitstorm since those said shitstorm battles determine the outcome generally.

MCC will probably make it to game pass once the spring patch hits

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 04:16 PM PST

I was thinking about the new game pass announcement, and realised it would work out pretty well overall. The timing is about right, and it will help rejuvenate the player base, and give people another good reason to drop the 10 bucks or use their trial.

I'd guess the announcement will happen in the days or weeks leading up to the patch itself, possibly alongside the path release date announcement.

Fairly Long idea that came to mind a while ago. I'm not expecting it to come true, i just want some feedback (its fairly long)

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 09:06 PM PST

Heres an Idea I made a year ago that received lots of positive feedback. Originally I thought of its as a game mode but that'd be to big, so it'd have to be its own game.

Warzone 2.0 (its an actual war this time)

The maps are about Mombasa sized maps (press read more for more) Capture points are spread throughout the maps. Either the game servers are very long or last practically forever. The mode will have credits like in reach. The credits will be used only for this mode. You can use credits to upgrade/buy spawnables, fortifications, and vehicles (will get to later). Once one is bought it can be used forever. Once upgraded it can increase health, speed, or damage. Upgrades and buying new units can only be used out of game Spawnables - with the credits (which can be used in game, but not for upgrading or buying new units) you can buy marines which will arrive in a pelican in a near friendly capture point. The marines can be commanded to capture, defend, follow, patrol, and enter a vehicle. The normal marines will be equipped with br's and ar's. There will also be heavy marines. The heavy marines will also arrive in a pelican and will already have more health and heavier weapons like SPNKr's. Kills from marines will go towards you. Fortifications - Fortifications will be put into captured points. They will include Sentries(like HW), manned turrets, and barricades. The marines will be able to use manned turrets and take cover behind barricades. (can be upgrades) Vehicles - The vehicles will be dropped off in pelicans. Vehicles will include scorpion, gauss hog, rocket hog, warthog, mongoose, gungoose, hornet, falcon and so on. And possibly, there could be elephants which would act as mobile spawners which can be set up anywhere, although I do not know how they will arrive. Marines can drive everything except the elephant. Marines in elephant will either roam it or hop on a turret. When marines are in vehicles you can command them to go somewhere.

If so Covenant Spawnables - Works alot like the UNSC spawnables, just different units. Spawnables would be Hunter, Elites, brutes(maybe), and grunts. Hunters would be just one hunter since they're big and OP. Elites would be like 5, brutes would be about 5 to, and grunts would be a full phantom/spirit. brutes, grunts, and elites can use vehicles. Vehicles - same as UNSC, just different vehicles. Vehicles are Ghost, Banshee, wraith, revenant, spectre, chopper, and prowler. Transports - transports are on both teams. UNSC has a Pelican, Covenant has a spirit or phantom. Pelican/spirit/phantom would have to be called in separately than the ones the spawnables arrive in. Spawnables can be commanded to get into transports.

Updates Heal station - UNSC fortification, heals nearby troops and spartans Repair station - UNSC fortifcation, heals nearby air and land vehicles Engineers - Covenant spawnables, heals nearby troops and gives brief invulnerability when nearby troops are in danger, floats around Technician - UNSC spawnable, weak all around, armed with magnum, heals slower than repair station but is of course on the move Medic - light armor, armed with BR/AR, heals slower than heal station, but is also on the move Suicide grunts - Covenant spawnable, fast moving weak armored grunts that do high damage to infantry, building, and vehicles. Easy to take out but move very fast Jackrabbit - Fast moving vehicle, player controlled or marine controlled, armed with grenade launcher and can be used to cause damage early on in round. Super units are a no-no

MORE UPDATES ON THE WAY

That is all I have for now, If you really like this try to communicate it with 343 or something. Thanks for taking time out of your day to read this lol.

Armor thought for H6

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:52 AM PST

I was watching old halo trailers when i watched the xbox one reveal trailer (the one where chief is wearing a cloack and watches a guardian activate) and thought how cool would it be if there where cloaks you could wear over your armor. They dont have to be very big plus in lore you could say theyre used to mask the spartan's armor from spying AI's by hindering their electrical output or something.

Halo VR Project?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 04:58 AM PST

A serious and well rounded discussion about monetization systems in future Halo games.

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 09:58 AM PST

Id like to bring up a not so angry and hate filled discssion about the monetization systems in Halo.

To start the conversation id like to bring up Project Horseshoe, a small conference of games developers and industry people.

Here is the source

I am bringing up these people because they came together to create 5 rules for ethically montizing a game, and I think the req system (or any alternative system) going forward can greatly improve.

Firstly we need to remember the main reason reqs were introduced, not whether they were respectful, or whether they gave us a full games worth of content, but the non-money related money reason for thier inclusion...Not splitting up the playerbase, so far I think r/halo is sending mixed messages to 343 and Microsoft, and I think this not so good for the future, we are either so vile against it and get classic dlc ($60) and split the player base, or we get to complacent with microtransactions and they go too far. I think if we speak up we can come up with a good way to help fund future expansions without splitting players.

Before I get into the 5 rules project horshoe came up with we need to aknowledge that we DO NOT need lootboxes to monotize the game without splitting players, it could be campaign dlc, it could be a small subset of armors having a paywall or a fair unlock rate, emphasis on fair. If they do decide to do lootboxes there is a FAIR way of doing them, and I will explain later.

These are the 5 rules for ethically monotizing a game. This is what 343 should really look at for the future.

  1. Players should not regret purchasing.

  2. Do not lie to your players.

  3. Don't change the player contract.

  4. Don't set expectations that are not delivered on.

  5. Respect your players' investments. Don't take hostages

Now while I feel like Halo 5 and the current req system follows rules 4 & 5 fairly well, there is something that needs to be said about rules 1-3 for Halo 5.

Rule 1 feels fairly violated with the current system, at times it kind of feels unfair and lacking in value, for many players they regreted their purchase due to the nature of lootboxes, aside from the classic helmet pack and to an extent the voicepack the rest very much violated this rule and left a sour taste in our mouths. Consider telling us the exact values of everything in the system if you keep them, if it is completley random or even worse dynamic than us players will percieve this as gambling and probrobly lose even more respect for the game, I think this is what really scares players the most and why so much of the community is so hostile towards the idea of reqs returning, lootboxes are in most cases are there to take advantage of players. Not only this but it was not cosmetic only, sure it only affects 1 gamemode, but I know that I am not the only one who thought Warzone could be so much more if it did not revolve around cards. Think about how easily you could market a high player count all out war experience without lootboxes or a system revolving around profit in Halo, massive objectives, Halo wars vehicles, weapon drops, This would print money.

Rule 2 shouldn't need tons of explaining, the whole advertising campaign was a lie. granted during Halo 5 this wasnt an issue, leading up to Halo 5 was not so transparent and it made me lose trust, this is not a good way to get future purchases and to build a community, id say this is far more damaging than the violations in rule 1.

Rule 3 was greatly violated in Halo 5, this rule goes into saying it is implied and expected that a sequal will have more content than it's predecessor, I don't even have to explain how horrible this rule is violated, while I think rules 1 & 2 hurt Halo, I think this devasted it and the trust 343 had with us completely, especially after MCC. Halo 5 had next to no content at launch and a system dedicated to taking advantage of players, while it was rather unobtrusive in comparison to other models, it still lacked polish and at times felt disrespectful to the player. Halo 6 needs all the content of previous Halo games as well, it is a sequal, that is what sequals are supposed to do.

-If you keep reqs do not water down the content of Halo 6, Reach set the bar for armor customization, BTB needs to be there, the game needs to be a fully fledged game, if it is not the game is doomed to fail.

-Heavily consider more fair systems, look at Titanfall 2, if you keep lootboxes this is how it should be done, cosmetic only and the unlocks can still be earned, there should always be armor that can be unlocked through gameplay ONLY. I don't think locking it to a specific mode is fair enough, you put massive development time into that mode and it is a large part of the game, it should be just as good as the rest, it suffering and not being all it can be from microtransactions brings the whole game down. I will have to bring up the fact Titanfall 2 did not have the best DLC though, id defintiely have better dlc if you impliment a similar system, it is not perfect. Lootboxes should not be dynamic or designed to squeeze optimal profits if they are ethically designed, they need to be clear about the chance of everything, and if it aims to be even more ethical, anything and everything needs to be purchasable directly via reqpoints.

I don't think Halo can afford to have a monotization system that is unethical, I don't think it can afford to break any rules in Halo 6. Not only does Xbox not have a lot of exclusives or killer apps, but unethically releasing another game could seriously have horrible long term effects and from a business standpoint,it could really screw Xbox and Halo.

What do you think should be done? Do you think 343 violates any other rules I did not cover?

Neil Davidge?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:50 PM PST

Is there any reason why 343 decided to keep Kazuma Jinnouchi for Halo 5 and not Neil Davidge? No offense to Jinnouchi, I actually like the Halo 4 and Halo 5 soundtracks. Just seemed odd to me how they kept one person and not the other.

Halo Wars 2 confuses me

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:42 AM PST

I picked up Halo Wars 2 back in November and I love anything in the halo universe. I am not used to RTS games but Halo Wars 2 is really awesome and I love the art style and everything.

I've been trying to play the campaign and I am confused since there is so much going on. I played the tutorial and everything but im confused as to how to make my base stronger to defeat enemies...

If anyone can give me some tips that would be great!
