I just want to say I'm sorry. Not sure what happened to my skills over the last 10 plus years but I'm terrible. Especially in Halo 2 usually happy if I can get at least a few kills. Still having a blast with the new MCC patch.

Is It Just Me...? (H3 Aiming)

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 11:03 AM PDT

Or is the aiming in Halo 3 on MCC fucking wack?

For a little bit of background I would consider myself DECENT at fps games. Halo 3 specifically. Not incredible, but not garbage either. After school every day for about 4 years I would come home and play H3 until it was time to go to bed. Although in the past I haven't played as much halo as I used to, it is always a game that my friends and I keep coming back to.

That being said, I cannot get the game to aim where I want it to. Its a constant fight to move the cross-hairs to the place that I want. At some points the sensitivity goes crazy fast for the most minute adjustments. Other times it will not go down as quickly as it did a few seconds prior. The most frustrating of all is the diagonals. Its almost like it moves in a series of up-left-up-left or up-right-up-right (same for down as well) movements. These are just some examples of my issues, there are others as well.

I've seen people say that "Its just h3" or "The bullets are projectiles and you have to lead your shots." While that is true, hit detection and non-hitscan aren't the issue I'm talking about.

For shits and giggles I loaded H3 backwards compatible version using the exact same controller on the exact same Xbox One X that I use for MCC. The difference in aiming was night and day between the 2 versions. It felt for the most part almost exactly how i remembered it.

I also loaded the MCC version with my controller on my brothers xbox and he did the same for mine. The issue was still present but not as severe on his console (brother) and he says it was definitely worse on mine.

At this point I really don't know what to do. I want to love this game again but it is a constant struggle. Are others experiencing this issue as bad as I am? I know it isn't just me because others have posted about it and my brother also experiences it.

I think it would be interesting to see what kind of hardware people are working with. If you have the issue (or don't) could you post your controller type and xbox type?

Over the weekend I made a bunch of helmet designs. Here's a lineup/collage of them all together.

Can the Halo Channel app get some MCC support now that there is some new life in the game?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 03:14 PM PDT

Been playing Halo MCC pretty consistently but always thought they could do a lot more with the app if the would have halo MCC stats on it and whatnot. Now with the recent update and MCC being on gamepass I hope they add something for it on the app.

What the hell's going on with the players?

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 07:36 PM PDT

I'm new to the MCC and I'm by no means a great player but since jumping in with the new update every single team slayer match has 1, 2 or even 3 guys going stupid negative, like 2 kills and 18 deaths. I've never seen anything like it. It's not just my team, it's on both sides.

All matches are a race against their respawn clock trying to do as much work as possible before they get themselves killed again.

Has Halo always been like this. Do social playlists just not have any skill based matchmaking?

Hey, so I’ve heard rumors of a comment thread a few years back that acted out the entirety of halo two. If anyone has it could you give me a link.

The Beauty of Halo

Posted: 31 Aug 2018 04:12 PM PDT

With all Halo games minus Reach (here's hoping) now I'm 4K and HDR, I just wanted to know what you thought some of Halo's most captivating moments were in terms of visuals. Maybe I'm just trying to break up all the threads on the MCC connectivity issues....but regardless I'll start.

Halo CE - Halo

The anniversary remake went a long way in increasing the detail and fleshing out the visuals of the original Halo and for the most part I'd say it was so successful that you wouldn't really need to play it using the original graphics. Except I played Halo CE when it first came out and so nostalgia has a tight grip on me. I love the originals' graphics - however dated they may be. That very specific grass texture that was so mind-blowingly detailed at the time. The way the sunlight broke as you moved beyond the trees. The way the suffocating distance fog enveloped the entire environment when you ventured into that "natural formation".

Halo CE might not have the graphical capabilities of a game from nearly twenty years ago but it set a tone and a precedent with what it had for years to come. The mission " Halo"in its blues and greens with that great big ring circling over head still seem as breathtaking to me now as it did all those years ago.

Halo CE/Anniversary- 343 Guilty Spark

The beginning of the level I believe looks it's best in the Anniversary graphics. With all the extra foliage, the jungle reaching even further back giving this uncomfortable sense of depth and the combination of these enhanced visuals and the original's deeply unnerving ambient sound effects, the opening of this level - though short - is truly an atmospheric wunderkind of the FPS genre. But venture inside and I implore you to turn the Anniversary graphics off. The classic graphics have got this mission. Covenant blood effects, Flood particles and lighting and shadows make the classic CE version of 343 a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling. Calling this level beautiful might be a stretch but I don't think any level in the entire Halo canon has used its game's graphical capabilities to capture the player as strongly as Halo CE did here.

Halo 2 Anniversary - Gravemind

I could have chosen the original Halo 2 either - it's still beautiful. But I feel H2A was a lot more successful in upgrading the visuals of Halo and keeping the original feel of the game than Halo CE Anniversary was of HCE. I think all of Halo 2 is pretty breathtaking but it's Gravemind's skybox that seals the deal for me. Looking out at the Dreadnought as it looms over the Covenant city of High Charity is a highlight in the series for me. Couple that with the incredible texture and lighting overhaul this level received - don't take my word for it. Just play it. Stand anywhere in the open and look out towards the Dreadnought. You'll be captivated too. The Covenant brig is surprisingly and pleasantly grimy while incorporating the Covenant's slick mauve aesthetic too.

Halo 4 - Requiem

If you've played Halo 4, you know the moment I mean: but just in case I'm referring to that jaw dropping moment where you step out of the cave and witness all of those gigantic Forerunner structures on Requiem defying gravity and bursting through the clouds. But this mission is stunning throughout. There's some contention over 343's direction with Forerunner architecture and I completely understand the criticisms. But even though I agree they definitely don't look untouched, I still think they look magnificent. And the opening of this mission is nothing short of stunning either as you make your way through multiple wrecked starships. This mission reminded me of the original "Halo" mission for CE.

There's many more - the Ark from Halo 3, Keyes from CE, pretty much everything from H2A and the odd moment of H5 - Halo has been consistently a beautiful series combining subtle atmospherics with breathtaking vistas. What are your favorite moments of Halo beauty? Were you blinded by its majesty?
