Long term sustainable raiding

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 01:42 PM PST

Since the recent update to fractals I've been doing my t4 dailies and recs on a very regular basis. I don't need the money or the drops, I just want the relics to pursue the title. Prior to the update I did fractals very sporadically, but the update put me back into the active fractal player population. Similar things happened with pvp and wvw - I clear out my wvw pips every week putting in at least 12 hours into wvw, and I pvp out all my pips each season. I'll happily admit I'm a rewards-based MMO player, and I make the claim that there are a lot of players like me - hence why WvW populations (temporarily) exploded when wvw pips were put in and pvp came alive again (kind of) at season 1.

Let's look at raiding. Most serious raiders have finished up raiding for rewards - there are at a minimum ~1700 players with over 750LI, which is a likely goal for most raiders. The majority of pug raiders that I have raided with got to 750 and quit regularly raiding (or they just buy a gorse instance and kill him for the week). I myself only raid sporadically and pretty much only for the cash - I have no real use for magshards/gaeting or LI, so if I'm not there for reset I'm likely skipping the week (since pugraids get progressively harder over the week if you aren't in a group 15 mins before reset).

This in my view creates a gap - there's always a proportion of hardcore raiders that raid to maximize their raiding skill (speedclears, progression, etc), and there are always new raiders tooling up to start getting their 17/17 weeklies. These populations generally don't particularly enjoy raiding with each other, and it requires a segment in the middle to exist to sort of 'bridge the gap'.

The problem is that as rewards-incentive raiders hit their 150/450/750LI goals, they fall off the wagon and exit the active raiding pool. This lowers the population, reduces the overall quality of non-progression raids and makes it harder for newer raiders to spool up and learn encounters - we're already at a point where the first thing a would-be raider sees isn't a LFG post looking to fill a raid squad, but ads for raid sellers. For a sustained population of active raiders to thrive, there must be enough pugraiders raiding throughout the week that cover the gamut of experience, from new raider training days to semi-exp wing clears to reset 2:30 fullclears. The only way to have this is to have available rewards that experienced raiders would find meaningful, to cover the hassle (and tbh yes pugraids are a bit of a hassle) of raiding with a wide spread of skills.

We've already seen the fractal solution (gigantic grind targets) and that could easily work for raids. Maybe if you turn in 250 LI you get a permanent buff that behaves as the call of the mists buff, but always active for every week. Or you can trade 1000 magshards for permanent account bonuses (gold find, magic find, etc). Maybe a very rare raid-exclusive skin that can be TPed, that can drop from any raid encounter chest. Raiding for cash is still worth it, but there needs to be something other than legendary armor or ascended equipment to raid for, long term, to keep rewards-motivated raiders in the overall raiding pool.

edit: grammar

Massive desynch for anyone else

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:07 PM PST

So I'm not seeing other posts about this, but my raid group just had to finish early today because we couldn't deal with some issues in game (yes if we are good enough we could get passed these, but w/e).

So right now, it feels like half the people are completely desynched. We fought Desmina with everyone seeing half the squad under the platform, or inside mountains. Resing people was virtually impossible unless we got a S&R on them or a spirit res.

Has anyone else noticed this much desynch today or is this really just a one off thing? We were experiencing this through rainbow road, desmina, and dark labyrinth. Through multiple instances of the raid wing.

Would you mind if the next xpack mastery couldn't be used in core Tyria?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:32 PM PST

Gliding and Mounts are huge additions to the game that changed the way we play. And becasue of that it felt unnatural to not have those tools outside of the ex pack they came in. But my pessemistic side keeps saying theyll eventually run out of "game changing features". Personally I love being proven wrong with this but lets look at an example.

If say a Bubbles expansion comes and they add a full on pirate ship mode. Similar to Sea of Thieves, Assassin Creed: Black Sails, Sly 3(the pirate levels). It would be a huge feature but it wouldnt be available in any way outside of the designated maps. So my question is, would the expansion feel lesser than its predecessors becasue of this?

Issues looting chests in Palawadan/GH events?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:52 AM PST

Anyone else having issues where most of the chests that spawn are glowy and already opened, and you can not loot them? Its been two days now that I have tried these meta events and gotten maybe 1/3 of the chests actually lootable for me. Before that I hadnt done it for over a week so I know its not me hitting a cap :/

No posts anywhere on this issue, checking here

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:23 PM PST

Have had an issue going on for a month or so in game and just now getting around to the point of asking about it or trying to fix. Apparently I'm unable to revive about 1/3 of the player base. Don't know if it's an issue on my end, server issues with lag and players not actually being where I'm going to revive them or what but I've not seen any threads about bugged revive skills/animations or anything alone these lines. Sent in a bug report a few minutes ago so going to wait and see what happens. I promise though, that little engineer that you see hopping around isn't being a jackass by not reviving you.. at least not all the time

Curious if anyone else wants this feature : See patch download size, BEFORE downloading

Posted: 23 Jan 2018 11:02 PM PST

Just wondering if anyone else would like to see this implemented, and if we get enough positive replies, if we could try to get it added somehow. I have searched for answers, and have not found any. If there has been something like this before, sorry for the repeat question.

Basically, I recently switched to using my mobile hotspot for all of my internet needs. I have 10GB hotspot, per phone line, each month. Well because of this, I have been watching my usage like crazy and noticed while playing, I barely use anything. Ranges from 10MB/hr to 100MB/hr for some reason with my carrier. but because of this limit, I'd love to be able to see how big an update is before I start the download, to know if I should find a WiFi (public WiFi or use a friends), or if I can continue to download over 4G.

I Know that the patch size will be different for everyone depending on if you keep up with every patch or not, but what if they added a checker that checks your local files, and compares that to the download server to give you a "Total Size till Playable : xxMB; Total Update Size : xxMB" Sort of prompt.

Can we get a way to transfrom Mighty +9 Agony Infusions back to 2*+7 Agony Infusions?

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:11 AM PST

Hi guys,

I frequently run fractals and now have finally +25 accoundwide Agony Resistance over the new vendor.

With 25 accountwide AR you only need 125AR over infusions. The cheapest way to get this is over +7 Agony Infusions, since 18*7 = 126.

So basically, it would be much more effective if I tranform all my Mighty +9 Agony Infusions back to +7, but unfortunately this is not possible.

My suggestion is to make this possible. Currently there is a way to combine 2 two Mighty +7 Agony Infusions with some raw Agony Infusions (no Attributes) into one +9. It would be totally fine if we don't get back the Agony Infusions without Attributes, I only want the two +7.

Of course this should be available not only for Mighty Agony Infusions but for the other attributes aswell. In the past anet provided a lot of posibilities to split up infusions and I don't see any reason why they should not make it in this situation, too.

To RolePlay or not to RolePlay - The question is tyrial...

Posted: 24 Jan 2018 04:27 AM PST

Let's start a comfy roleplay story thread?

  • Do you role play? Why not?
  • Do you have more than one character with a vastly different personalty with which you actively role play on?
  • Care to introduce us to your favorite RP character?
  • Anything else you would love to share with us, regarding your RP GW2 adventures?

Ironically, my main character, a Asuran Revenant that goes by the name of "Valery of the Mists" is the character I nearly never RP on. I use her to clear content, play the meta, and so on. It's the only character on which I am working on map completion, T4, raiding, achievements, play competitive, etc.

I have 4 other characters, and on all of them I RP. I have barely started to clear any serious content on them, even tho I have plenty of game time on them, mainly because I found it impossible to reliably and consistently do stuff, while maintaining the RP flair... and I don't mind that at all. That's is why I've made them, and even if it takes forever, I have so many more fond memories while playing leisurely on them, and RPing, than I have on my main.

Yet, if I didn't have my main, I wouldn't have even scratched the content of GW2, so I am quite happy with how I am managing it.

My favorite character to RP on is "Sash van Shroom", a Sylvari Mesmer, that hates to fight and wants to become a dog breeder, even tho some mean individuals are telling him that a mesmer can't do that. He is also dedicated to only wear armor and weapons that he himself made for himself, even tho he is not the craftiest among the blacksmiths/tailors.

https://imgur.com/a/0dIMJ he's a little bit shy, for a mesmer.
