There's no good reason to skip orbs on

Vladmir's Offering
- Leaves your Attack Modifier slot open for something later
- Powerful aura for team (and it's ok for pushing -- overrated IMO)
- Even more powerful if you have multiple melee heroes
- Higher lifesteal
- Gives some mana regen
Helm of the Dominator
- Can be built entirely from the side shop
- You get a creep to use for stacking and pushing/auras
- Early raw damage (+20 vs. the +15%)
- Note: you need to be hitting for about 134 for +15% to give you 20 damage
- Builds into
Satanic (where STR will give you HP which gives you Ult dmg) - A support can pick up
Vladmir's Offering and it still benefits you - Slightly cheaper (200g)
Overall
Helm of the Dominator = early game, solo kills, late game
Satanic, stacked camp usage
Also good when you have a mid that is Always keep in mind a support can pick up
Vladmir's Offering = mid game, 5-manning, looking to buy something like
Desolator (or
Maelstrom and still get lifesteal when it procs -- otherwise lightning overrides lifesteal orb for that attack)
Main difference here is that That's not such a bad thing in and of itself, because you can use a dominated creep to stack ancients, providing you with some extra gold and experience.
Also, note that:
Helm of the Dominator >
Satanic is a late game item
Vladmir's Offering is a mid game item
Ursa is a mid game hero
