The Balcony (Weekly) is ending.

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 11:28 AM PDT

Hey fam, let's all gather around and talk for a sec.

I won't dance around the topic: The Balcony is ending. The game plan is to host a Balcony this weekend, then the final one will be Aug. 5th. I wanted to get this info out ASAP for you guys so folks can do their best to come thru.

We will still be taking the rest of Aug off to take a slight break and work on Balcy's Palace. Once that event passes (1st weekend of Sept, please sign up prices go up Aug 1st), we will be aiming to try to start our new weekly series, under a new name and brand, and a new place. The goal will be to not run some event in a cardshop, so while I want the series to kick off early September it may take some time for us to get the pieces to make another, new memorable SoCal series.

The only place I plan to continue using the Balc name and brand is for the Big Balc National series, which we still plan to run under the same stupid names, aesthetic, and of course rockin' out with PM. Not sure about how Balc Cast will be handled yet but we do aim to continue that vodcast series. Finally, We Livin' (sorry we haven't had the best luck getting that to happen last couple months) is targeted to go down end of Aug but we are waiting on confirmation for the venue. We Livin' will continue unchanged.

I do want to say huge thanks to all of you who have come and enjoyed the Balcony, whether it be coming as an competitor, a homie who just wants to chill, spectator, etc. The series will always hold a special place in my heart and I am both proud of how it has shaped this community. I can't believe the house lived thru over one hundred of these things. That being said, I am also excited for the new series and all the possibilities it holds.

Event page for this week: https://www.facebook.com/events/1113920705410058

We are still doing the SoCal Callouts! Note that Dumshiny, Red Ranger, and Jose V are all going to be out of town at Supernova! We will also be raffling off a bunch of Bigger Balc shirts (we have ~14) to those in attendance! Everyone can come get a free smash.gg sticker (first come, first serve, limited quantity).

The PGRv3 Square of Parity

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 06:30 PM PDT

Click this for the image

Hi there!

Inspired by this Bad Melee post, I decided to make a square of parity involving the entire PGRv3.

A ____ of parity, for the unaware, is when you link teams/players together in chains of wins and losses to make a graphic that would give Inui a stroke.

It was actually really easy because everyone upsets everyone else, even when I restricted myself to only the tournaments used on the PGRv3 lol

For the curious, this is the data I used

How to use:

HIKARU beat Tsu-
Tsu- beat ZeRo
therefore HIKARU is better than ZeRo and is the best in the world

The Scar and Toph Show: S04E01- Lucky Hundred (Ft. BenSW, Blur's Missing)

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 09:36 AM PDT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxAI98M-P-U

SUP WITH IT!

It feels SO good to be back! We had to take a short break, but now we're going full force with both The Scar and Toph Show and The Reads! Just like before, we intend on keeping our old schedule: new S&T Show every other Monday (starting at either 7 or 7:30 PDT) and a new session of The Reads every 4 weeks on crosscounter (1 part uploaded each Monday on YouTube). With that cleared up, let's talk about this episode!

Originally, we planned on having the one and only Crimson Blur join us for the premiere of season four. We could talk about all kinds of things, like the recent TO summit, his opinions on Marth-Fox, and hear him go on and on about how the world isn't ready for Prime Blur. HOWEVER, when the world needed him most... he vanished. Thinking fast on our feet, we knew just the guy to snag out of the office to sub in: the legendary BenSW!

For those of you unfamiliar with BenSW, he's most easily recognizable for being the face of the NotLikeThis emote. Beyond that, Ben is a smasher and just a fun dude to hang out with. He's been to a ton of big events, and he has the stories to prove it. On this show, we spend a lot of time talking about two recent tournaments: Dreamhack Summer and Evo! Ben and I went on a grand Swedish adventure with Leffen and Yabasta and we get to talk about a side of Leffen that others don't really get to see very often. At Evo, Scar, Ben, and Mango all gambled together and we learned about the legend of the Lucky Hundred! Along the way, other stories ranging from Twitch parties to America vs Sweden beer pong competitions are told too, rounding out the show very nicely!

We do also spend some time talking about a serious issue that has come up recently: controllers. With important factors to consider such as dashback and shield drops, there are many things that a competitor looks for in a good controller. Scar roomed with Hax at Evo and learned more about these issues and some of their potential fixes. Whether you use controller mods like notches or would like to use a box style controller, the community has some decisions to make and we think it is important to talk about.

As always, thank you for your support! Watching the show and sharing your thoughts means a lot to us and we greatly appreciate it! We'll be back with another show in two weeks and hope to see you there!

What is the most one-sided set that you have ever seen between two relatively evenly matched players?

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 06:45 AM PDT

Sets usually don't go exactly how you expect them to, but sometimes what you think will be a very tight set ends up being a complete blowout. I was wondering what the most extreme instance of this ever happening was.

Ones that come to mind for me are Colbol vs Ice, Lord vs Gahtzu and Javi vs Duck

Would you play/spectate in a fox only meta?

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 09:41 AM PDT

I started watching melee a few years ago and have noticed a serious trend towards players maining/co-maining fox.

While I think this point is still yet to come, what would you do in a meta where only fox is viable? Would you still compete/spectate?

For me personally, my interest in melee has started to wane. I primarily enjoy playing marth and sheik but I've had very little to look forward to from either character, with m2k* The Moon and Pewpewu being the only notable marth mains at tournaments, and with kirbykaze not playing as much, and plup slowly switching to fox, really only Shroomed* swedish delight comes to mind as a notable sheik main.

I also enjoy seeing other characters but even characters like falco and falcon have less and less notable tournament viable players.

Asking this from a purely speculative standpoint I'm not bashing the game or anything, but genuinely interested in peoples opinions on the current meta and its potential future.
