Project Olympus

Fall Split Ranked Updates

  • "Our second round of Project Olympus changes are here! Ranked is an important part of our game and allows players to play competitively against each other. We have taken time to focus on improving some existing systems and give players more insight into the Matchmaking process."
  • New Pick & Ban Feature : Planning Phase "The first major change is a new Pick & Ban phase called 'Planning Phase'. This phase will help improve player communication, especially in situations like console where communication is more difficult." A new phase is being added to Ranked called Planning. During this short 30 second period, players can highlight Gods they wish to play, while also highlighting Gods they wish to ban. If multiple players select the same Gods they want banned, a number will appear next to that god to indicate how many players recommended that ban. The goal is to improve communication for teams the second they are in a lobby together, while giving console players additional tools to communicate their plans.
  • 30 seconds has been removed from the total amount of Bank Time to accommodate for this new Planning phase.

New Matchmaking Division Rank

  • "In SMITE Ranked play, your rank is not what determines Matchmaking. It is a progression system that over time will represent your actual skill.

  • Previously, players qualifying were given a rank as well as a hidden matchmaking rank. As the system became more sure of a player's skill these two ranks meet. This can cause confusion as a Silver player who is very much on his way to earning Platinum gets paired against other Platinums.

  • Starting with this patch, this Hidden Matchmaking Rank will be visible. With this extra information players should be able to have a better understanding of what the system thinks about them as a player while giving more information to determine the quality of Matchmaking.

  • Players will now see a Matchmaking Division, in addition to the Earned Division. The Matchmaking Division is the division you are being Matchmade at (what the system estimates your skill level to be), while the Earned Division is a measure of your progress towards that estimated skill. This Matchmaking Division will only appear to the player and will not be publicly visible at initial launch. God Leaderboard Points "A system we implemented at the start of Season 4 was God Leaderboards, and the way players climbed the ladder was confusing to many players. We are now adding a point system to the leaderboard that will show how many points they receive after a single match. This point formula uses a combination of how difficult a specific match was, how high ranked the match was, and the outcome of that match with that specific god. This means a player winning in Bronze matches will gain less points than a player winning in Masters matches." Players will now see the Point Value on the God Leaderboard that determines placement. Each win with a god gives that player a certain amount of points based off how difficult the match was and at what skill level the match was played. Losses deduct some points. This should better represent why players are ranked the way they are on the God Leaderboard.

Fantasy Point Tipping

  • "Have you ever had someone who really carried your game or was just fun to play with? You can now give that player Fantasy Points as a way to say thanks! At the end of the match, players will be able to tip a percentage of their earned FP from that game towards an allied player and the whole lobby will be notified that the tip occurred. If you want to grind out some extra FP, being kind can really pay off."

  • Players can now tip a portion of their Fantasy Points earned in a Match to team members. If a player went out of their way to be kind, helpful, or got a Pentakill throw some Fantasy Points their way as a way to say they rock!

  • The tipping button will appear on the scoreboard in the End of Match Lobby.

Fall Ranked Split

New Season

Soft Reset:

  • Players have been soft reset, meaning previous Season performance will have an impact on where they qualify to. Players will need to complete 10 new qualification games before receiving their Fall Split starting rank.

MMR Division Adjustments:

  • Divisions have has their associated MMR values adjusted based on historical data. This should improve the accuracy of each division and the percentile of players that should belong in each division. Conquest had minor adjustments, while Joust and Duel had large adjustments. These modes should feel the largest difference and the best players of these modes should find themselves more able to reach Masters without a large game grind of low TP gains.

Ranked Reward:

  • Fall Recall Skin

Misc and Gameplay

  • The End of Match Lobby will now display Experience earned if you are not Level 160.
  • Respawned Phoenixes will have new "weakened" animation postures and FX to convey they deal less damage after respawning.

Bug Fixes

  • Stone Cutting Sword:

    • Fixed an issue where players would not receive a stack if they dealt a killing blow.
  • AthenaAthena:

    • Fixed an error on the K screen that would cause her Passive to have no description.

Relics - Balance

Bracer Of Undoing:

The Health and Mana restored by Bracer of Undoing is being decreased. Players using this in the early game could quickly negate early aggression and tankier late game characters received a massive amount of Health returned. With a decrease to 40%, this Relic should be easier to counter."

  • Decreased the Health and Mana restored from 50% of recent Damage taken to 40%

Bracer Of Undoing Upgrade:

  • Decreased the Health and Mana restored from 50% of recent Damage taken to 40%

Items - Balance

  • Atalanta's Bow

    • "Atalanta's Bow provides basic attack gods the ability to gain a short burst of speed to juke and to give chase. This duration was a bit to short to really utilize this effect. By increasing it to 3 seconds players should have more time to make plays with this additional speed."
    • Increased duration of Movement Speed Buff from 2s from 3s
  • Demonic Grip

    • "In the Mid-Season patch, we made large changes to the Ring tree which removed Attack Speed as a stat for Telkhine's Ring and Shamans Ring and replaced them with Movement Speed. Toxic Blade and Witchblade received more aggressive stats, but are more utility based than purely focused on attack speed. We are adjusting Demonic Grip to more heavily focus on Attack Speed and lowered cost and Power to accommodate this change."
    • Decreased Cost from 2300 to 2150
    • Decreased Magical Power from 65 to 40
    • Increased Attack Speed from 15% to 30%
  • Hastened Ring

    • "Hastened Ring gives Mages strong chasing power with their Basic Attacks. At 4 seconds of Haste on a 30 second Cooldown this item was unreliable. Increasing the duration while reducing the Cooldown will help this item feel more impactful and more often."
    • Increased duration of Haste Buff from 4s to 6s
    • Decreased internal Cooldown from 30s to 25s

Gods - Balance

Anhur Cupid

"Anhur is an aggressive hunter who has been underperforming in the competitive and casual scene for some time. We are increasing the reward for being aggressive with Disperse and letting him threaten his opponents with Desert Fury more often."

  • Disperse:

    • Increased Damage from 50/90/130/170/210 to 70/110/150/190/230
  • Desert Fury:

    • Decreased Cooldown from 90s to 75s

Cernunnos Cupid

"It's happening! Cernunnos is strong in many situations, but this should come with some drawback. Horn Charge is going to be riskier to use early against opponents due to its decreased Damage while late game Cernunnos will not be hitting as hard in Summer Heat. In addition to these adjustments, The Wild Hunt is also seeing a Cooldown increase. This is a powerful Crowd Control effect that does not suffer Diminishing Returns and should have a longer Cooldown to match."

  • Shifter of Seasons:

    • Decreased Physical Power Scaling of Summer Heat from 10% to 5%
  • Horn Charge:

    • Decreased Base Damage from 90/140/190/240/290 to 70/125/180/235/290
  • The Wild Hunt:

    • Increased Cooldown from 90s to 100s

Freya Cupid

"Freya is struggling from the mid-season adjustments. While Chronos and Sol had alternative Mage builds, Freya was more reliant on the higher options of Attack Speed items and the Hastened Fatalis effect. Hastened Ring and Demonic Grip are both seeing significant improvements that will directly affect Freya, but we wanted to give more power to her base kit to help her out.Her Base Attack Speed is being increased from .95 to 1 which will make any Attack Speed item she obtains more impactful. Additionally, Pulse is seeing a base Damage increase that will help her clear more effectively until she can get these Attack Speed items online."

  • General:
    • Increased Base Attack Speed from .95 to 1.0
  • Pulse:
    • Increased Base Damage from 20/30/40/50/60 to 30/40/50/60/70

Osiris Cupid

"Judgement Tether provides a massive Damage reduction debuff to anyone afflicted that ramps up over time. At the highest levels of play this ability was used not only for the stun, but to disrupt enemies from being able to engage effectively. We are reducing the amount of Damage he can mitigate by removing the Bonus Damage reduction occurs over the 4 seconds of judgement tether. This change is targeted towards where Osiris was seeing effectiveness (high level coordinated play) and as the meta shifts towards more late game strategies we will keep a close eye on Osiris to see if he needs further adjustments in the future."

  • Judgement Tether:
    • Removed the bonus 5% Damage Reduction per second when a target was tethered. (This removes up to 20% Damage Reduction at maximum duration.)

Raijin Cupid "Raijin underwent many targeted changes to reduce the frustration of his opponents. When strong, he was frustrating to the point of needing immediate nerfs to prevent him from ruining other players experiences. With these changes done, we can now bring Power into non-frustrating components of his kit. In this patch, we are increasing the utility of each of his skills. Charge Tempo will now provide 2 seconds off all Cooldowns, helping Raijin consistently pressure the enemy team. Percussive Storm will now pierce gods which has both lane benefits but teamfight benefits as well. Finally, Taiko Drums is seeing a reduction in the slow it applied to Raijin. This will make him feel less like a target and help him position himself while firing out his ultimate shots."

  • Charged Tempo:

    • Increased Cooldown Reduction from 1s to 2s
  • Percussive Storm:

    • Percussive Storm now pierces enemy Gods
  • Taiko Drums:

    • Decreased self Slow from 40% to 20%

The Morrigan Cupid

"The Morrigan was slow to start, but has really ramped up in performance over the recent SPL splits and at Dreamhack Valencia. Her ability to transform to fit any situation is powerful, but what really impacted games was her long Stealth. Players could use this far away from a team and burst a squishy character without much (if any) warning. With some CDR, she could be doing this nonstop. We are reducing the duration of this Stealth effect while making it more expensive to spam in the later stages of the game. This adjustment should allow the top end players to have more counterplay options when fighting against The Morrigan."

  • Confusion
    • Decreased Stealth duration from 4/5/6/7/8s to 4/4.5/5/5.5/6.
    • And Adjusted Mana cost from 70 at all ranks to 60/65/70/75/80

QOL change for Hel and Ullr

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 02:27 PM PDT

Since Artio is getting it, could Hel and Ullr get an indication for when the other stance's abilities are off cooldown? They're all gods with 6 abilities and it'll help Ullr especially since his passive reduces the cooldown of the opposite ability.

Missed out Cu Chulainn opportunity

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 12:50 PM PDT

I was playing CuChu recently and was curious on what his VVM (Out of Mana) voice lines was and then became a little sad when it was just a plain old Out of Mana line. I feel like Hi Rez could've made a good joke out of this since he doesn't use mana. Like why not have him say "I'm not that angry right now" or something similar.

Just my thoughts

If Artio gets a T2 before Ganesha then every god after him will have gotten a new skin before he even gets his first.

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 11:21 AM PDT

DATAMINING SPOILS PARTIALLY With datamining showing a T2 and a T3 for Cu Chulainn coming in the next few patches that means both DaJi and him will have gotten two skins before Ganesha even gets his first skin. If Artio gets one too that means it will be three gods that released after him got skins before him. I don't know if its just a hard model to make a skin for or they are lacking ideas for a skin but its a little weird seeing that he's a top pick in most games and usually first round ban worthy.

So can arena get more starting gold?

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 12:01 PM PDT

Roughly 20mins each game, sometimes less and I never really get the chance to finish my mage builds until the last 2 mins by then the game is pretty much over.

Can we get a community vote for a HiRez Employee skin

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 09:17 AM PDT

I think it will be great to be able to play Bacchus with a sweet Hinduman Skin, or maybe an FDot Raijin Skin. Even a Taco Cupid skin would be great, although I am not sure if the head size could be adjusted or not.

Check out my fan art of Freya!

The most heartbreaking smite experience I've ever encountered.

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 05:44 PM PDT

So at the beginning of an assault match, before the minions spawned, everyone was just having am innocent jumping party. Then an enemy Hades (with the help of an enemy Odin's ult) used his ult on my team and got a pentakill.

Interesting new vampiric shroud interactions.

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 12:28 PM PDT

TL;DR: Vampiric shroud can proc multiple times per ability in a few gods, despite saying it can only proc once per ability. I compiled a list of the ones I found in this post.

As you may know, recently, vampiric shroud was changed. It now procs on hitting abilities instead of killing the target, has better stats for solo laners and its supposed to only proc once per ability.

Since it gives way less health and mana than the older vampiric shroud (for obvious reasons) and its supposed to proc once per ability, the starter is way worse for mana sustain than before (you need to hit 4 abilities to get more mana per target than the older vamp shroud). However, the item seems to proc multiple times on a few abilities which makes it a little bit better for a few gods.

Here's a list of the ones I found:

Xing tian

2 - Twice per target - Once on axe damage (Knockup) and once on slam (Root).

3 - Twice per target - Once per leap.

Terra

1 - Twice per target - Once per dash.

2 - Twice per target* - Only on shatter*.

*Only if each wall is shattered individually. If you shatter both at the same time it seems to only proc one time.

This makes it really hard to proc two times in the entire wave, since the second wall will usually block the shatter from the first one, however its possible if you place the walls a little bit tilted.

Thoth

1 - Once per target per shot, up to 3 times per target.

3 - Once per target.*

* If you basic attack or use a skill through it.

Not so interesting interactions:

Athena

Passive - Doesn't proc, which is weird since it procs soul reaver and ethereal staff.

3 - Once per target - It wont proc on the second hit if it hits the first one.

Ao kuang

2 - Twice* - One time on basic and one time on throwing*

*If you throw the dragons imeadiately after the first auto attack it seems to only proc one time.

Agni

Passive - Doesn't proc, despite being able to proc spear of magus, gem of iso, etc.

Nu wa

3 - It will only proc one time if you hit both the minion explosion and the shinning metal at the same time.

Final thoughts:

The best user for this starter item seems to be thoth, since he can proc it 3 times per target with his 1. Giving him 54 mana per wave. On rank 1 this ability costs 60 mana, so you can cast it almost for free.

The other good users are Terra and Xing Tian (Both on the solo lane). While the passive is less effective on them, they make better use of the stats and the multiple procs per ability gives them more mana sustain than other gods using the item.

Even on gods that cannot proc it multiple times, the item is still very good for health sustain, as you only need to hit two abilities to get more health per target than the older vamp shroud.

Keep in mind I haven't tested every single god, so if you find any other interaction that I didn't found, please let me know in the comments.

I thought Cupid remodel was high on the list

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 02:45 PM PDT

But he's now got a couple of new skins and his masteries updated... Does that mean we won't see his model updated for a while?

(Haven't watched the whole patch notes show yet so apologies if I have missed them talking about that)

EDIT - Okay guys, by 'high on the list', I simply meant that it was high on the list of the community cries/desires, not a certainty by HiRez, as they haven't said a word on the subject. I am also fully aware that not everyone wants a Cupid remodel. I personally quite like the cherub look for him but I think he needs some updating, even if it's just a polish.

What's your proudest diamond?

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 06:55 PM PDT

Could be for any reason. Something you stuck with, or enjoyed the least/most. Because everybody else did it, or you wanted one few people had. Mine would be Hel, due to my enjoyment of the stance change and double roles. This was back before Ullr came in, so she was the unique snowflake on the field. At least, for me.

Make a team out of your favorite gods in every role

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 04:06 PM PDT

Just what the title says, as per usual with my posts; think about your favorite gods and try to put together a team with them. It doesn't have to be a god from every class; if your favorite jungler is a warrior or a guardian, you can go ahead and throw them in. Ditto if you have a preferred combo.

I'm still very young as a smite player in terms of skill, so I don't have the ability to do this, but I'd love to see what you all have!

NRG Invitational Team Picks Discussion

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 05:23 PM PDT

Team Players
Titans Ataxaria, Dimi, PrettyPrime, Wubbn, Mask
Minotaurs iRaffer, Adapting, Zyrhoes, Benji, Pandacat
Manticores Aror, Emilitoo, Captaintwig, TheBest, Kikisocheeky
Juggernauts Barraccudda, Yammyn, JeffHindla, Variety, Qvofred

The Winners: Barraccudda has quite possibly drafted the strongest team in terms of raw talent and there is no denying they are a team full of juggernauts. Barra and Jeff are undeniably the strongest duo lane coming out of NA with a long history of strong and consistent synergy. Yammyn is one of the top mid-laners in the world and the 2017 SPL finals MVP. Finishing up the Juggernauts' last picks are arguably the best solo and jungler in the world in Variety and Qvofred. The only question mark on this team is how well all the strong talents synergize outside of the duo lane. Lets not count out Team Minotaurs however with iRaffer drafting a strong team with incredible synergy. iRaffer first picking his teammate Adapting was a given. Picking up Zyrhoes immediately after was also a very intelligent pick with Zyrhoes being the former coach of the winning NRG Season 3 championship team with great synergy with iRaffer and Adapting. Rounding off the picks for Minotaurs is Benji and Pandacat from team EUnited who also have a long history as teammates. The NRG players are known for their strong late game and objective play so picking up players from one of the more objective based teams in NA as well as Pandacat being known for his late game hard carry makes a team that can control objectives and the late game.

The Loser: Sorry Ataraxia, you're still my favorite hunter. However, Ataxia probably made the most questionable picks for the NRG invitational draft for Team Titan. For round 1 pick 2 right after iRaffer's obvious pick in Adapting, Atarxia chooses Dimi. Dimi is still no doubt one of the strongest solo laners in the world, however, picking Yammyn here would have forced Barraccuda to choose Dimi meaning Ataxaria would have a strong chance of drafting former teammate Variety for himself later. The PrettyPrime pick was no surprise however as one of the strongest mid-laners in the world with years of experience working with Ataxia. With his roster full of EU picks, the remaining picks must be from NA. Unfortunately Ataxaria could not snatch the sextank from Barraccuda and chose Wubbn for support which drew many question marks. Wubbn has a lot of potential and has yet to prove himself as a top tier support so shoutout to Ataraxia for giving him the chance. This pick leaves the remaining top NA supports in Jigz and PolarBearMike snubbed unfortunately. The Titan's final pick was Mask from team Luminosity. Junglers are very important in controlling the game tempo in the current meta and Mask is a very aggressive jungler from a strong NA team. However, many would argue that Homiefe is much more of a consistent aggressive jungler coming from North America.

The Wildcard: The Manticores led by Aror is described by Barraccudda as a team of cheese players. If anything, expect some classy trolling from this team and don't be surprised if Emilitoo first blood his teammate iRaffer with laugh spamming or Aror giving Barraccudda nightmares with an aggressive Ares play. All in All, Minotaurs is a well rounded team with Aror's teammate TheBest playing the mid position, one of the top EU junglers in Captaintwig, and Kikisocheeky who has lately been a monster in the NA scene. However, the solo pick still drew some questions with Deathwalker, arguably the best solo laner in the world, and former Fatchunks teammate cyclonespin still available.

Missed Opportunities: To the surprise of many, Deathwalker was completely passed on for the NRG invitational picks. More experienced NA supports PolarBearMike and Jigz were passed in favor for Wubbn who will have a lot to prove in the upcoming tournament. With the team captains consisting of two hunters and two supports, final shoutouts go to Emilzy, Funballer, and Arkkyl who were missed for playing roles with more limited picks.

Something needs to be changed for Clash

Posted: 26 Jul 2017 04:33 AM PDT

Clash is now just a 'turtle until the last teamfight' mode. Unless you completely stomp the enemy team early and quickly finish the titan, it's almost impossible to finish. Gold and exp spooling is still too high. Getting a lead means nothing if soon the enemy will catch up soon anyway. The gold fury and old FG should come back in the mode. I've noticed that no matter how good of an early or mid game either team has in this mode, the enemy team will turtle and everyone hits lvl 20, full build, and the final fight decides the match regardless since there is no real measure against it.
